Partners in Bremen and Germany

weltwärts-Bremen developed through the cooperation of econtur and BORDA both based in Bremen.
Within the years there have been diverse cooperation with different partners in Bremen who we are still related to on different levels. The about us page just mentions the current active partnerships. We value all additional partners, engagement and support form former volunteers and all informal partnerships very much. All of them are a valuable part of the programme.

Partner throughout the world

We can not stress the importance of the connection to our project partners in the different regions of our programme enough.

Most of our partnerships have grown over the years and originate from the project work and networks of BORDA (Bremen Overseas Research & Development Association). BORDA was founded in 1977 in Bremen from engaged citizens, who in the face of the oil crisis wanted to find alternative ways to release the energy crisis to support people in need. By now BORDA is a fixed authority in Bremen with established networks around the world and a reliable partner base for weltwärts-Bremen.
WECF (Women engaged for a Common Future) is another partner who came into the weltwärts-Bremen programme through the intersections and cooperation with BORDA.

The Bremen-Durban Sister-City-Partnership as a strong partner network from both side joined in quickly after that and is growing ever since. In the beginning the connection arose to the 1999 founded Bremen-Durban Städtepartnerschaft e.V. which developed out of the civil engagement against South Africa's Apartheid system in the 90s in Bremen. Especially the connections from Sportgarten Bremen and since 2011 the official municipal partnership twining are the roots of the current partner network with Durban. Even our Partner in Pietermaritzburg Whizzkids United is an original bond with Sportgarten Bremen and used to have another office in Durban at that time.

The individual partner to the projects and placements are introduced under the projects themselves. .
